How to put two PDF pages side by side

Combine every two portrait PDF pages into one landscape page — ideal for handouts, manuals, presentations, printing and easier widescreen reading.

1. What the Side-by-side pages feature does

The feature automatically takes two consecutive PDF pages and places them next to each other on one new landscape page.

For example, if your original PDF contains pages 1, 2, 3 and 4, the new document is reorganised like this:

  • New page 1 — original pages 1 and 2 side by side.
  • New page 2 — original pages 3 and 4 side by side.
  • The same process continues automatically through the whole document.

This is especially useful when converting A4 portrait pages into A4 landscape pages with two pages per sheet.

🔒
123 PDF Editor processes your document locally in the browser. Your PDF does not need to be uploaded to an external conversion server.

1 2. Open your PDF

Start by opening the document you want to reorganise in 123 PDF Editor PRO.

Open the PDF you want to convert to a two-pages-per-sheet layout.
  1. Install and open 123 PDF Editor PRO.
  2. Click Choose a PDF.
  3. Select the PDF from your computer.
  4. Wait for the document pages to appear in the editor.

You can use the feature with multi-page PDFs, including long manuals, reports, books, presentations and scanned documents.

3. Open Page Organizer

The side-by-side function is available inside Page Organizer, where you can manage the structure of the entire PDF.

Page Organizer shows all PDF pages as thumbnails and gives you access to page-level tools.

From Page Organizer you can also reorder, rotate, duplicate, delete, extract and import pages. This makes it useful when you want to prepare the document before combining pairs of pages.

💡
If the order of the pages is not correct, rearrange them first. Side-by-side pages are created using consecutive pairs: 1+2, 3+4, 5+6 and so on.

4. Apply Side-by-side pages

Once the pages are in the correct order, the actual conversion takes only one action.

Use the Side-by-side pages command to combine each pair of consecutive pages.
  1. In Page Organizer, find the Side-by-side pages command.
  2. Click it to start the transformation.
  3. The editor groups the original pages in pairs.
  4. Each pair is scaled proportionally and placed on a new landscape page.

For a document with eight pages, for example, the resulting layout will be:

  • Pages 1 + 2 → new page 1
  • Pages 3 + 4 → new page 2
  • Pages 5 + 6 → new page 3
  • Pages 7 + 8 → new page 4

👁 5. Check the new landscape preview

After applying the feature, Page Organizer updates the thumbnails so you can immediately see the new two-page layout.

The updated thumbnails show two original pages placed next to each other on each landscape sheet.

Check a few pages before finishing, especially if your PDF contains pages with different sizes or orientations.

The original page proportions are preserved so that text, images and graphics are not stretched horizontally or vertically.

6. Undo the operation or continue editing

Made the change by mistake? You do not need to reload the original PDF.

Use Undo in Page Organizer to revert the most recent page operation. This lets you test the side-by-side layout and go back if it is not suitable for your document.

You can also continue editing after the pages have been combined. For example, you can:

  • Rotate pages by a custom angle.
  • Add or remove pages.
  • Reorder the new landscape pages.
  • Add page numbers, headers or footers.
  • Add text, annotations, images or signatures.

7. Download the new PDF

Once the preview looks correct, apply the changes and export the finished document.

  1. Confirm the page organisation.
  2. Return to the main editor if needed.
  3. Click Download PDF.
  4. Open the downloaded file and check a few pages at full size.
💡
For printing, check your printer's scaling setting as well. The PDF itself already contains two pages on each landscape sheet, so you normally do not need to enable a separate “multiple pages per sheet” option in the print dialog.

8. When is a two-pages-per-sheet PDF useful?

Putting two pages side by side is not only about reducing the total number of PDF pages.

Printing handouts

A 100-page PDF can become approximately 50 landscape pages, which can reduce paper use when the text remains readable at the smaller size.

Manuals and study material

Two-page layouts are useful for course notes, technical manuals, reference documents and revision material.

Presentations and slide exports

When a PDF comes from presentation software, combining two pages can create a compact handout-style version of the slides.

Widescreen reading

On a desktop monitor, a landscape sheet containing two pages can be easier to browse than opening one tall portrait page at a time.

? 9. Frequently asked questions

Common questions about putting two PDF pages on one page.

Can I put two A4 PDF pages on one A4 landscape page?

Yes. This is one of the main uses of the feature. Two portrait pages are scaled proportionally and positioned side by side on a landscape sheet.

Does this change the content of the original pages?

The page content is repositioned and scaled to fit the new layout. It is not intentionally stretched or distorted.

What happens if the PDF has an odd number of pages?

The editor can still process the document. The final unpaired page is handled separately rather than affecting all previous page pairs.

Can I undo the side-by-side operation?

Yes. Use the Undo control in Page Organizer to revert the latest modification.

Do I need to upload my PDF to an online server?

No. 123 PDF Editor is designed to process the document locally in your browser, which is useful for private and confidential files.
